Keanu Reeves is diving into Shiver, a unique sci-fi thriller directed by Deadpool helmer Tim Miller featuring a genre-bending mix of time loops and sharks.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film’s script will be penned by Ian Shorr (Splinter) and is described as a mix of 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow, the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi action flick centred around a soldier fighting aliens while trapped in a time loop, and 2016’s The Shallows, a shark survival movie starring Blake Lively.
While plot details are sparse, it’s reported that Shiver will centre on a smuggler who ends up caught in a double-cross while stranded in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him somehow getting stuck in a time loop and having to face off with hostile mercenaries and hungry sharks as he fights to find a way to break the cycle.
Warner Bros. is reported to be in final negotiations to acquire the film, which is set to be produced by Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise) via his Marv Films banner alongside Aaron Ryder (The Prestige).
Shiver will also mark Reeves’ return to the sci-fi genre after the 61-year-old’s long-running stint with the Matrix franchise, with its latest entry being 2021’s revival sequel, The Matrix Resurrections. The film also adds another notch to the stars’ already packed schedule, as apart from returning as the Baba Yaga in the next John Wick film, he is also working on adapting his own comic book series, BRZRKR, with director Justin Lin.
