‘Silent Hill’ Producer Rebuffs Hideo Kojima’s Claim That AI Will Shape Remakes And Sequels

Following comments made by former Konami developer Hideo Kojima that game remakes and sequels will be made by AI in the future, Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto has come forward to refute these claims, stating that AI would never be able to make a game like Silent Hill f.

During a recent press conference at the Brazil Game Show 2025, as reported by Rolling Stone Brazil, Kojima spoke on the state of today’s gaming industry, where many developers are choosing to expand upon existing IPs instead of creating new ones, suggesting that “in the future, remakes and sequels will be made by AI.”

Unsurprisingly, his comments sparked debate on social media, notably from Okamoto, who disagreed with the claims and stated that “It would be quite difficult for AI to replace works that take a significant departure from the original path of the series, like Silent Hill f.”

Okamoto added that while “AI might be able to create a proposal for a sequel set in the Silent Hill universe”, it would not be able to take on “bold challenges” like changing its setting to 1960s Japan or getting Ryukishi07 on board as a writer.

True enough, it’s these departures from franchise norm that truly make Silent Hill f a unique beast, with the title selling over 1 million copies in just four days after its launch on 25 September, with Konami also alluding that it had outperformed its predecessor, 2024’s Silent Hill 2 remake, a feat that AI could never recreate.
