The images come via a post from Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto on the official Nintendo X/Twitter account, which shows Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio) and Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell) as Link and Princess Zelda, respectively, in the backdrop of a “lush, natural setting.”

Additionally, the post also revealed key details of the movie, outlining that filming is currently underway, and that it is “on track” for release on 7 May 2027, following a delay that saw it pushed back from its initial 26 March release that year due to “production reasons”.

The Legend of Zelda movie was first announced in November 2023, following the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is directing the project, with Avi Arad, whose credits include every live-action Spider-Man movie and the Spider-Verse animated features, serving as producer alongside Miyamoto, although further details on the film have been sparse.

The Legend of Zelda will adapt the video game franchise created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka that launched in 1986, and is centred on a warrior named Link as he rescues Princess Zelda and subsequently teams up to face off against the evil Ganon. The franchise is often considered as one of the most successful in gaming history, spanning 21 entries and multiple spin-offs to date.

The Legend of Zelda is set to hit theatres on 7 May 2027.
