Darkstone Digital, the team behind the 2022 horror hit The Mortuary Assistant, has announced its next project, Paranormal Activity: Threshold, a first-person supernatural thriller themed around the occult.
Based on the supernatural horror film franchise, which spans seven films from 2007 to 2021, Paranormal Activity: Threshold will follow Daniel and Jessica Stewart, a couple documenting the renovation of their new home, when they discover that it hides something far more sinister.
“As they dig deeper into the mysterious house, their excitement turns to concern when they uncover strange markings and items hidden within the walls,” reads the game’s description on Steam. “The more time they spend there, the clearer it becomes that they are not the home’s only occupant. Sinking deeper into the influences of a dark presence, Daniel and Jessica are unprepared for the horrifying events that follow.”
While not much is known about the title gameplay-wise apart from brief glimpses of first-person exploration of the house and some puzzle-solving elements, Paranormal Activity: Threshold will be set across multiple timelines, tasking players to “hunt and communicate with entities” and “perform demonic rituals to alter [their] fate”. The game is also set to feature multiple endings and some sort of procedural level generation, as it’s described as using the Paranormal Engine to make “every playthrough unique”.

While information on the upcoming title is still sparse, Darkstone Digital certainly has to chops in horror video game development, considering the success of The Mortuary Assistant, which immediately became a viral hit upon launch with its unique cadaver management gameplay and, of course, tons of scares the player has to deal with as they perform their nightly tasks. The game was so successful that it has led to a film adaptation, with Arrow’s Willa Holland in its leading role.
