Crash Bandicoot, the classic platforming video game series, is marking its 30th anniversary next year, and it seems Netflix has big plans to revitalise the franchise for a brand new audience, as the streamer is reportedly working on an animated series based on the iconic anthropomorphic critter.

As reported by What’s on Netflix, the streamer is “quietly” developing the animated series, and it will be helmed by WildBrain, the creative studio behind the 2022 series Sonic Prime and 2019’s Carmen Sandiego, both to which where made in partnership with Netflix.
Details remain under wraps, so it’s unknown if the series would be a direct adaptation of the video game’s narrative or feature an entirely original plot. This isn’t the first time Crash has appeared in animation form, as he made a guest appearance in a few episodes of the 2016 Netflix animated series, Skylanders Academy.

Crash Bandicoot debuted in 1996 as a platformer developed by Naughty Dog, initially being a PlayStation console exclusive series until going multiplatform with 2001’s Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Over the years, the game has spawned 23 games, including mainline entries and spin-offs, with the most recent being 2023’s multiplayer title, Crash Team Rumble. A fifth mainline game was reportedly in the works by developer Toys for Bob, but was ultimately cancelled in 2024.
