‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Season 3 Kicks Off The Culling Game In Jan 2026

Tensions ran high during the Shibuya Incident Arc, and they are about to rise to a fever pitch in the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen. As announced in the anime’s fifth anniversary livestream, the fan-favourite series will return in January 2026, with an accompanying trailer showcasing the high-octane action and high-stakes battles that follow the Culling Game arc.

Picking up immediately after the finale of Season 2, the forthcoming outing (otherwise known as The Culling Game Part 1) is set to bring the titular violent tournament, courtesy of curse-slinger Kenjaku, to the small screen. Jujutsu Kaisen 0‘s Yuta Okkotsu (Megumi Ogata, Yu-Gi-Oh!) is back, this time with the directive to execute Yuji Itadori, alongside familiar faces such as Megumi Fushiguro, Maki Zenin, Yuki Tsukomo, and Choso, as well as major players like Higuruma, Naoba, Kashimo, and more.

Shota Goshozono, who directed Season 2, is helming Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, with animation handled once again by Studio MAPPA (amid their other heavyweight projects, including the Chainsaw Man film). Hiroshi Seko writes the series composition, while Yosuke Yajima and Yoshimasa Teuri serve as character designer and music composer, respectively.

In addition to the trailer, the event also revealed a new compilation movie titled Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution – Shibuya Incident X The Culling Game Begins –, coming to Japan on 7 November. It features a recap of the Shibuya Incident arc and the first two episodes of The Culling Game, the latter of which marks the longest stretch in the original work.

Based on the ninth arc in Gege Akutami’s manga of the same name, the Culling Game Arc follows Yuji, Megumi, and their allies as they enter the Culling Game with the intention of rescuing Tsumiki Fushiguo from participating, freeing Satoru Gojo from Prison Realm, and protecting Tengen from Kenjaku. The arc is considered one of the series’ most exciting, as it delivers sorcery thrills and surprising twists in spades.

Meanwhile, Jujutsu Kaisen was named the world’s popular anime by the Guinness World of Records and led the charge for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024. The official synopsis is as follows:

“Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organisation that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.”

Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen airs sometime in January 2026.
