A kaiju-sized visitor will soon swing by Japan’s gateway to the world, and it’s none other than the King of Monsters himself. As part of a partnership between Toho Co. Ltd, Japan Airport Terminal, and the Tokyo International Air Terminal Corporation, a 40-metre statue of Godzilla is set to grace Haneda Airport this December.
Based on the original 1954 design of the iconic monster, the centrepiece measures around nine metres high and will be the largest indoor Godzilla installation in the world. Alongside its touchdown in the departures lobby at Terminal 3, the experience also features other immersive elements in the arrivals area, including artwork of various iconic kaiju across the franchise and a statue of the titular beast from the recent Oscar-winning film Godzilla Minus One.

The displays are scheduled to run for one year at Haneda Airport until December 2026, with the theme centred on Godzilla welcoming “all visitors to Japan and see[ing] them off when they depart”. The project marks the latest initiative in celebrating Godzilla’s long-standing legacy, following celebrations of its 70th anniversary last year.
After checking it out in person, fans can consider zipping away to Godzilla’s mouth at the Nijigen no Mori Park on Awaji Island or to Seibuen Amusement Park in Tokorozawa, where a new themed ride awaits, for the full-fledged kaiju experience.
