As one of developer Capcom’s most established video game franchises, Monster Hunter has become a cultural phenomenon across the globe, well-loved by fans for its addictive gameplay loop of battling giant beasts and using their hides and other materials to craft increasingly powerful equipment. The game’s first entry debuted in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, with the series growing to receive six mainline titles and 16 spin-offs.

The game’s latest entry, Monster Hunter Wilds, released in February this year and brought the franchise to the modern console era, introducing different regions to hunt in that featured varying weather patterns to shake up gameplay. The franchise is also set to receive its spin-off threequel, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, in 2026, which adapts the series into a turn-based tactical format where players can befriend and ride companion monsters into battle.

Sing along without regard for the language barrier.

The post Apple Music Rolls Out AutoMix, Lyrics Translation & Pronunciation appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

Following the rollout of its iPhone 17 series, Apple is back at work introducing new capabilities to its latest software update. In the case of Apple Music, this means subscribers can now enjoy AutoMix, Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation, Library Pins, and more for an improved listening experience on the app.

As the name suggests, Lyrics Translation displays lyrics in the selected language, with the accompanying Pronunciation option showing the phonetic pronunciation of the lyrics — ideal for languages like Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. It can be accessed by tapping the Lyrics button and shares similarities with Spotify’s feature, but the company states that both machine learning and fine-tuning from language experts are used to ensure the emotion, cultural context, and lyrical intent are fully preserved.

AutoMix, meanwhile, is a new seamless playback that intelligently transitions the user’s music through time-stretching and beat-matching at the perfect moment. The functionality won’t be available for every listing, however, as albums, DJ mixes, and certain genres where the original mix works better are excluded.

For easy access to all their favourite playlists, soundtracks, artists, and more, the app now lets subscribers pin them to the top of their library. Additional new features include Apple Music Sing with iPhone Mic, where they can use the iPhone as a microphone to amplify their voice through the TV or as a Continuity Camera to see themselves singing onscreen alongside lyrics and visual effects; the ability to customise the Home Screen with new widgets and revisit various artists, tracks, and playlists from the Replay tile on the Home tab on iOS, iPad, and Android; and animated album covers on the lock screen.

The refreshed experience comes as part of OS 26, the unified operating system version number representing every software update and introduction lined up for the year — 2025 to 2026, in this case — starting with the revamped Liquid Glass design language (check out our article for the biggest highlights).

Spotify Rolls Out Direct Messaging Feature https://geekculture.co/spotify-rolls-out-direct-messaging-feature/ Wed, 27 Aug 2025 07:24:43 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=323277

Sliding into DMs just got a soundtrack.

The post Spotify Rolls Out Direct Messaging Feature appeared first on Geek Culture.

Spotify is adding a new way for listeners to connect without leaving the platform. The streaming giant has announced the launch of Messages, a direct messaging tool that lets users share music, podcasts, and audiobooks straight through the app. The feature begins rolling out this week in “select markets,” and will be accessible on mobile to both Free and Premium subscribers aged 16 and above.

Spotify

According to the music streaming service, Sharing works directly from the Now Playing screen. By tapping the share icon, listeners can send a track, podcast, or audiobook to friends within Spotify. Eligible recipients include people on the same Spotify plan, as well as users connected through Jams, Blends, or Collaborative Playlists. Once sent, all exchanges appear in the new Messages inbox, located under the profile picture in the top-left corner of the app. This hub allows users to revisit content recommendations without having to dig through texts or third-party apps.

The system is designed to simplify the recommendation process, which Spotify notes already happens across multiple platforms. Messages support 1:1 conversations, text replies, and emoji reactions, with all exchanges protected by “industry-standard encryption” to keep chats secure.

User safety tools are also built in. Message requests can be accepted or rejected, and anyone can be blocked or reported. Content moderation will extend further, with Spotify confirming it will “proactively scan Messages for certain unlawful and harmful content” and manually review flagged reports. To make reporting simple, users can hold down on any message to flag problematic accounts or material.

Spotify

At launch, it remains uncertain whether artists will be able to interact with fans using Messages. For now, Spotify emphasises that the feature is not meant to replace existing communication channels, but rather to complement them. As explained, Messages was designed to “complement” sharing via Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and TikTok, acknowledging that users already recommend music and podcasts through those platforms.

The arrival of direct messaging marks a notable step in Spotify’s evolution beyond streaming. By giving even free users access to this social layer, the company may be setting the groundwork for richer person-to-person interaction in the future.

Other notable upcoming projects include The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, due out on 9 October 2026, the animated follow-up to Korra, Seven Havens, slated for release in 2027, and Season 2 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation.

Rest and relax easier with science-backed solutions.

The post Apple And Universal Music Launch Sound Therapy Wellness Collection For Focusing, Relaxing & Sleeping appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

Resting comes more easily to some than others, and Apple is looking to improve the experience in its own way. The tech giant has teamed up with Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch Sound Therapy, an “audio wellness” collection designed to help listeners enjoy clearer focus, deeper relaxation, and better sleep.

Apple Universal Music Sound Therapy

Available exclusively on Apple Music, it blends well-known songs with special sound waves that enhance daily routines “while retaining the artist’s original vision”. The selection is crafted based on audio science, or so the companies claim, and may include auditory beats or coloured noise, sound waves with varied intensity at different frequencies categorised by colours.

Users can expect popular tracks like Katy Perry’s “Double Rainbow”, Kacey Musgraves’ “Golden Hour,” Sam Smith’s “How Do You Sleep?”, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves”, Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” and more, which are sorted into one of three categories: focus, relax, and sleep.

The full description for each is as follows:

 • Maintain Focus: The Focus category is designed to support improved cognitive performance and concentration, tapping into the power of gamma auditory beats to help listeners get in the mindset to achieve optimum focus. White noise masks distracting sounds, aiming to help listeners stay in the moment.
 • Time to Relax: Songs in the Relax category are made for letting go, blending and infusing in theta auditory beats to help achieve ultimate relaxation.
 • Made for Sleep: The Sleep category is designed to encourage deeper sleep through an infusion of delta auditory beats or pink noise, which works similarly to white noise but uses natural sounds like rainfall and ocean waves.

Both Apple and UMG clarified that Sound Therapy is “designed to support a person’s overall well-being” but is “not intended to treat any medical condition.” It joins the recent addition of Apple Music Chill radio station that offers a “continuous flow of chill highlights across genres, interspersed with mindful moments meant to remind listeners to make the time to find centre and calm.”

After a decades-long musical career in the video game industry, legendary composer and Japanese pianist Yoko Shimomura is set to be the next recipient of the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement.

The arts charity’s most prestigious honour will be presented on 8 April 2025, recognising her efforts in creating various era-defining soundtracks, including the Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy XV, Mario & Luigi, Xenoblade Chronicles, Streets of Rage, the Mana series, Super Mario RPG, Live A Live, Radiant Historia, Parasite Eve, Breather of Fire, and Street Fighter II.

“I am who I am today thanks to all the people who have supported me, allowing me to continue being involved with the music that I love and discovering the medium of games where that music can flourish,” said Shimomura, now a freelance composer after previous stints with Capcom, Square Enix, and other companies.

The musician’s well-earned accolade is particularly significant, representing a rare break in a mould traditionally dominated by men — a feat BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip highlighted in a statement:

“A pioneer of video game music, pianist and composer, Yoko has created unforgettable soundtracks for so many beloved games and paved the way for women in the industry at a time when it was overwhelmingly male-dominated. Her groundbreaking work has already inspired countless artists and will continue to resonate for generations.”

Shimomura joins fellow industry veterans Shuhei Yoshida, former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, and Shigeru Miyamoto, of Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda fame, on the BAFTA Fellowship list, which recognises those who have made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television. Other notable names include Warwick Davis, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Martin Scorsese, John Carmack, Peter Molyneux, Thelma Schoonmaker, and more.

Singer Charli XCX Circling Jadis The White Witch Role In Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Reboot https://geekculture.co/charli-xcx-circling-jadis-the-white-witch-role-greta-gerwig-narnia-reboot/ Fri, 07 Mar 2025 05:32:04 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=312987

Brat winter when she’s bumpin’ that.

A new queen may be coming to Narnia, and she’s bringing a BRAT-era attitude with her. Charli XCX, fresh off a four-win sweep at the BRIT Awards and a headline slot at Glastonbury, is reportedly in talks to join Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, according to Deadline. The pop star is being considered for a major role in the Netflix film, with sources suggesting she could be stepping into the shoes of one of the franchise’s most iconic villains — Jadis, the White Witch.

Tilda Swinton last played the icy antagonist in 2005’s The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, making the character a defining presence in the modern cinematic adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ classic books. Jadis is the force responsible for cursing Narnia with an endless winter, and her commanding presence makes her one of the most memorable figures in the series. Given Charli XCX’s bold stage persona and larger-than-life presence, the casting choice could inject an unexpected dynamic into Gerwig’s version of the fantasy epic.

Her potential involvement in Narnia adds another major title to an already packed slate of acting projects. The singer-songwriter has been making a notable transition to the screen, recently wrapping roles in Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice, and Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex. She is also starring in The Moment, an A24 film based on her own original idea, which has just entered production under director Aidan Zamiri. With upcoming collaborations alongside industry heavyweights like Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Jenna Ortega, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, her pivot into film is moving quickly, and Narnia would mark her highest-profile role yet.

Netflix has been working to bring The Chronicles of Narnia back to screens since securing the rights in 2018. After years of stalled progress, the project gained momentum in 2023 when Gerwig was announced as the writer and director of at least two films in the rebooted franchise. While it remains unclear which books will be adapted first, the rumoured inclusion of Jadis suggests that The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe or The Magician’s Nephew will be the starting point. Given Gerwig’s past success with Barbie and Little Women, anticipation is high for her take on the beloved fantasy world.

Netflix, known for its streaming-first approach, has agreed to an extended theatrical release for Narnia after Gerwig pushed for a large-scale rollout. The film is expected to premiere on IMAX screens worldwide on Thanksgiving Day 2026 before arriving on the platform that Christmas. If the casting rumours hold true, Narnia may soon have a new ruler.
