Bungie's looter shooter hit goes mobile.

destiny rising

Fans of Bungie’s online first-person shooter Destiny can now take their looting and shooting on the go, as the company has partnered with mobile gaming giant NetEase for the franchise’s first free-to-play live service mobile title, Destiny: Rising, which translates the hectic massively multiplayer online shooting action into an accessible, portable, and still immensely engaging handheld format.

Much like its two console and PC game counterparts, Destiny: Rising once again thrusts players into a war between humanity and alien invaders, but this time, it’s taking a leap into the past. Set multiple years before the events of 2014’s Destiny, the game is set in an alternate timeline and follows a character called Wolf, who is revived by a Ghost as a Lightbearer, humans capable of wielding special Light powers, in a quest to fight back against the alien threat and restore human civilisation.

Featuring gameplay most fans should feel right at home with, Destiny: Rising offers players the choice between traditional first-person perspective or over-the-shoulder third-person shooting, now with intuitive touch controls and some additional quality-of-life options to ease those new to the shooter genre, such as the ability to automatically aim down weapon sights when pressing the fire button. Additionally, the game features a plethora of options to tweak controls, such as gamepad support, key remapping and even controller dead-zone and sensitivity options players can adjust to suit their preferences.

Apart from taking on its main quests, players can also join others around the world in PvE raids or even PvP matches, with a fair play system that reduces everyone’s Character Relic level to one, ensuring a level playing field. Unlike the mainline games, Destiny: Rising lets players choose from a roster of playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and stories. Additionally, the game also features some systems not seen in past titles, like racing, the ability to dual-wield weapons, and various mini-games like a Flappy Bird-style side scroller or a collectable card game named Shadowshaper Duels.

As a free-to-play title, players might justifiably have concerns about its in-game monetisation systems, and while they are present, fans can rest easy knowing that it isn’t as egregious as most other mobile titles. Weapons are primarily obtained via gameplay, while its gacha system to get new characters definitely benefits paying players more, but all characters can be attained just by playing the game. Additionally, players should expect the live-service mainstays like battle passes and an energy system, with the latter currently being addressed by the development team to provide more freedom and fewer restrictions while still maintaining game balance.

Monetisation and gacha aside, Destiny: Rising is still an ambitious gaming undertaking that has largely succeeded in scratching that looter shooter itch even while on the go, with many players even remarking that it’s a return to form to the days of the OG Destiny. The developers’ commitment to player feedback, alongside the game being completely playable even for players who don’t spend a single cent – at least for now – means that this is one mobile title worth checking out, especially if you are a Destiny or looter shooter fan.

Destiny: Rising is now available for free on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

A new-yet-familiar tokusatsu hero rises to the occasion.

The post ‘Super Sentai’ Morphs Into ‘Project R.E.D.’ With ‘Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity’ Tokusatsu Series appeared first on Geek Culture.

The 50-year journey of the Super Sentai action series — the inspiration behind the popular Power Rangers — may have come to a historic end, but the tokusatsu (a Japanese term for live-action and television dramas that make heavy use of practical special effects) spirit continues in the form of Project R.E.D., which will take over the show’s previous timeslot of Sunday, 9.30am, on TV Asahi, starting 2026.

Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity Project R.E.D.

Kicking off the project is Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity, serving as a homage to the beloved 1982 franchise, Space Sheriff Gavan, the first in the Metal Hero series. While the new red-chromed battle suit in the teaser poster takes its aesthetic cues from its progenitor, the show is set to follow an entirely new story.

Further details about the production, including cast, staff, and an exact release window, were not announced. As for the multimedia project itself, the R.E.D. stands for “Record of the Extraordinary Dimensions”, and will feature red-themed heroes in various stories, with the possibility of crossover appearances in each other’s shows.

Starring actor/stuntman Kenji Ohba, who had roles in other genre titles like Battle Fever J and Denshi Sentai Denjiman, Space Sheriff Gavan centred on the titular agent of the Galaxy Federal Police, as he defended Earth from invasion by the sinister intergalactic mobster Don Horror. A revival attempt was made in 2012 with an anniversary film that spawned a handful of spin-offs in the mid-2010s, but Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity will mark the first official TV entry in the franchise in nearly 20 years.

Previously, news outlets Kyodo and The Sankei Shimbun reported that the reason behind Super Sentai‘s termination was attributed to a financial loss, as the income earned from events, merchandise, and film adaptations proved insufficient to cover production costs. No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger was the 49th and latest instalment in the franchise created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori, who developed the first two Super Sentai series with Toei.

Unveiling the mystery...for good.

The post ‘Wicked: For Good’ Set Photos Lift (Yellow) Curtain On Dorothy Actress appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

The mystery has been lifted! Since her debut in Wicked: For Good (not a spoiler — the character’s arrival was hinted at in the trailer), fans have been speculating about the identity of the actress who plays Dorothy, and the reveal is now out in the open.

Taking to Instagram, British star Bethany Weaver shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the movie set, including a group shot with the Wizard of Oz crew (The Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion), and Oscar, the dog who brought Toto to life on the big screen, while acknowledging her role as the girl from Kansas.

“What an honour it has been to walk on the yellow brick road with my fellow Witch Hunters,” reads the caption. “A huge thank you to the best film maker of all time Jon M Chu for choosing me to be your Dorothy in this wonderfully wicked universe called Oz.

“This has been a life changing experience, it’s changed me in so many ways and most importantly, for good. It’s been an honor to carry the legacy of the brilliant women before me who have stepped into these shoes, and embarked on the yellow brick road. I hope I have made them proud.”

As with the original Broadway musical, Wicked: For Good conceals Dorothy’s face from viewers, instead showing only her back as she walks down the Yellow Brick Road and stands before the Wizard. According to The Sun, the secrecy surrounding Weaver’s role was so significant that she was stopped from attending major premieres, while other cast and crew were banned from following or interacting with her on social media.

Wicked: For Good

In any case, the highly anticipated sequel has proven to be a box-office hit. It collected an opening haul of US$226 million globally, setting a new record for a Broadway adaptation. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, alongside Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton) as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park franchise) as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

No console subsidies here, but Valve promises a "good deal" for its level of performance.

Following its announcement on 13 November, Valve’s Steam Machine hybrid console has raised questions from the gaming community regarding its price point, but now, Valve coder Pierre-Loup Griffais has revealed that its cost will be more in line with that of a regular PC.

Speaking on Skill Up’s Friends Per Second podcast, Griffais explained that the Steam Machine will target comparable PCs on the market, with the aim to provide a “good deal” for the amount of performance it can push out.

“If you build a PC from parts and get to basically the same level of performance, that’s the general price window that we aim to be at,” Griffais explained “Ideally, we’d be pretty competitive with that and have a pretty good deal, but we’re working on refining that as we speak. Right now is just a hard time to have a really good idea of what the price is gonna be.”

When asked if the Steam Machine will see the same subsidies as other consoles on the market, like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Griffais said that it would not, although he added that Valve will try to remain competitive in terms of price versus the performance of the hardware on offer.

“Obviously our goal is for it to be a good deal at that level of performance, and then, you have features that are actually really hard to build if you’re making your own gaming PC from parts.” he added, noting that these include the hybrid console’s portable size, its low noise level, or the ability to be used with a TV remote or be switched on using a controller, further reiterating that the Steam Machine is “not really something that exists in the PC market right now”, making price planning a challenge at this point.

With the current generation of gaming consoles already being rather expensive due to price bumps over the years, the PS5 comes in at S$669 and S$799 for its digital and disc versions, respectively, while the Xbox Series X and S cost S$799 and S$469.9, it remains to be seen just how expensive the Steam Machine will get, but even if it does turns out to be pricey, let’s hope the hardware it packs is powerful enough to justify its cost.

After dangerous brushes with dinosaurs, Scarlett Johansson will soon find herself against a new threat — demonic entities. The Jurassic World: Rebirth star is set to lead the next Exorcist film for Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, with horror auteur Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass) at the directing helm.

The filmmaker also serves as writer and producer on the upcoming instalment, which has been described as a “radical new take” on the original pic set in the same universe. Other details, including plot specifics, a release date, and additional cast members, are under lock and key for now, but what’s known is that it won’t be a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, initially planned to jumpstart a new trilogy.

Directed by William Friedkin, the 1973 original followed the demonic possession of a young girl and the attempt to rescue her through an exorcism by two Catholic priests. It starred Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Max von Sydow, and Jason Miller, with the former two reprising their roles in Believer.

Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, newcomer Olivia O’Neill, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz, and Ann Dowd join the pair in the sequel that centres on a photographer who must confront the nadir of evil when his daughter and her best friend are possessed. It grossed US$137 million at the global box office and didn’t generate enough buzz for follow-ups.

The new Exorcist film won’t be Johansson’s first stab at reviving a major franchise for Universal; her most recent dino-led adventure, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), was one of the three movies to clear the US$750 million mark this year and set her up as Hollywood’s highest-grossing lead actor before inflation adjustment, ahead of fellow Marvel counterparts Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr.

far cry

Ubisoft’s flagship first-person shooter franchise, Far Cry, is getting a series adaptation from FX, with Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob Mac at the helm.

Far Cry 5 (2018)

As reported by Variety, the series will stream on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally, with Mac also set to star. While plot details remain under wraps for now, Far Cry will follow an anthology format, similar to the games, with each season featuring a new cast and setting.

Hawley is no stranger to the anthology format, with the 58-year-old filmmaker also creating the 2014 series Fargo, which has to date run for five seasons, each consisting of self-contained storylines set in different time periods.

“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of ‘Fargo’ is a variation on a theme,” said Hawley in a statement to the press. “To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.”

Far Cry 6 (2021)

The series will be based on Ubisoft’s iconic gaming franchise of the same name, which traces its roots to 2004 and has since spawned six numbered titles alongside numerous spin-offs, with 2021’s Far Cry 6 being the most recent entry. The upcoming anthology series will also be the second attempt at bringing the legendary shooter to life on-screen, following the 2008 direct-to-video film Far Cry, which launched to mostly negative reviews.

With such an experienced duo at the helm, let’s see if the Far Cry anthology can do justice to such a beloved shooter IP this time around, or if it will follow in the definition of insanity, which like Vaas Montenegro from Far Cry 3 so aptly put, is doing the exact same f**king thing over and over again, expecting sh*t to change.

The anime hype has only grown over the years, and the strong box office showing of this year’s anime films only serves to reinforce their presence. It comes as a treat to fans, then, that a handful of titles in the genre, including Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc, are eligible for consideration for the 2026 Oscars.

Chainsaw Man The Movie Reze Arc Oscars 2026

Per the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the works are listed under the Animated Feature category, where seven out of the 35 entries are anime features and Japanese media-related movies. Alongside the two juggernauts, directed by Haruo Sotozaki at animation studio ufotable and Studio MAPPA’s Tatsuya Yoshihara, respectively, the remaining candidates are as follows:

 • 100 Meters (Hyakuemu), from Kenji Iwaisawa and studio ROCK’N ROLL MOUNTAIN
 • ChaO (Yasuhiro Aoki / Studio 4°C)
 • COLOURFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing (Hiroyuki Hata / P.A. Works)
 • Dragon Heart Adventures Beyond This World (Isamu Imakake / HS Pictures Studio)
 • Scarlet (Mamoru Hosoda / Studio Chizu)

Other heavyweight additions include Sony Pictures Animation’s KPop Demon Hunters, Lost in Starlight, Netflix’s first Korean-animated film, Disney’s holiday tentpole Zootopia 2, and Chinese hit The Legend of Hei II, with crowd favourite Nezha 2 notably missing.

KPop Demon Hunters All-Time Record

The full list of eligible works for the documentary and international feature categories was also announced, totalling over 300 submissions across the board. As noted by Variety, some of them will still need to fulfil screenings in at least one theatre in one of six major American metropolitan areas for at least one week before the end of the year.

Shortlists for all categories will be unveiled on 16 December, followed by the finalised nominations on 22 January 2026. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is set to take place on 15 March, and it’d be interesting to see how far Japanese media can push their momentum in a traditionally Western-dominated space — Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron previously won the Best Animated Feature accolade in 2024’s show, while Takashi Yamazaki and TOHO’s Godzilla Minus One notched Best Visual Effects in a first for Japanese-language films.

The return to Hawkins is imminent, and Netflix certainly pulled out all the stops to go out with a bang. The streamer has dropped the final trailer for the long-awaited and highly anticipated Season 5 of Stranger Things, which puts the main crew in the thick of the action against inter-dimensional monsters.

“We have a plan. It’s a bit insane,” says Mike Wheeler in the opening moments, setting the stage for an adrenaline-fuelled time in Volume 1 that involves every party member in some form of danger, whether it’s Eleven leaping over a barbed fence, Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler fending off attacks with a machine gun and a flare, Lucas Sinclair holding up a metal pipe, or Steve Harrington driving straight into a gate.

Volume 1 is the first of three parts that make up the new season, comprising the first four episodes: The Crawl” (68 minutes), “The Vanishing of ____” (54 minutes), “The Turnbow Trap” (66 minutes), and “Sorcerer” (83 minutes). It premieres on 26 November, followed by the next three episodes on Christmas, before culminating in a two-hour grand finale on New Year’s Eve, with a simultaneous theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada.

Stranger Things 5 Vol. 1 Trailer

“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding,” reads the synopsis of Stranger Things 5.

“As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

The Duffer Brothers return to write and direct the penultimate instalment, joining Paul Dichter, Curtis Gwinn, Caitlin Schneiderhan and Kate Trefry as co-writers, and Frank Darabont and Shawn Levy as co-directors.

Meanwhile, the main cast, consisting of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Joe Keery as Steve, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, and Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna, will all reprise their roles.

Building a Westeros Cinematic Universe.

George R.R. Martin and HBO are steadily building up a Westeros Cinematic Universe, with ambitious plans to expand the Game of Thrones IP, as apart from both its spin-offs, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, receiving their next seasons leading to 2028, multiple other projects are also in development.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2026)

This follows the announcement of HBO’s roadmap, which lays out the next chapters for two of its prequel series, House of the Dragon, which is now in its second season, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will release in January 2026. The former will receive its third and fourth seasons in summer 2026 and 2028, respectively, while the latter has already been renewed for a second season due out in 2027.

Additionally, writer George R.R. Martin has even more plans in store for the franchise apart from those already confirmed, with the 77-year-old teasing during the 2025 Icelandic Noir Festival (as reported by Los Siete Reinos) that “there are other Game of Thrones spinoff projects in development.”

“The majority are prequels, and there are several in development,” teased Martin, “Maybe five or six shows, and I’m not developing them alone, I’m working on them with other people. And yes, there’s a sequel or two in the works.”

Game of Thrones (2011-2019)

Among the many supposed prequels teased, at least one of them has been previously confirmed, that being a series centring around Aegon the Conqueror, which will thus be set roughly 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. While not much is known about it at this point, it will likely follow Aegon I Targaryen and his two sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, as they conquer six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros with the might of their army and three dragons.

Most interestingly, however, is the existence of a sequel, especially considering how poorly the show’s final season wrapped the series. Martin has yet to complete the final two books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, so a sequel will likely link to their events.

As Glinda (or Galinda) boldly claimed, “We’re gonna make you popular”, and popular are the Witches of Oz, indeed. Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated follow-up to Universal’s adaptation of the Broadway musical, has opened to a staggering US$226 million globally, with US$150 million coming from North American theatres.

Wicked: For Good

The haul puts it ahead of its predecessor’s US$164.2 million gross over the same period, setting the biggest overseas launch for a Broadway adaptation. It also ranks as the second-biggest start of the year, sandwiched between April’s A Minecraft Movie (US$162 million) and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake, which collected US$146 million domestically. Overall, the film currently occupies fifth place in terms of opening numbers for musicals, behind The Lion King (2019), Moana 2Frozen 2, and Beauty and the Beast.

For the U.S. box office in particular, Wicked: For Good represents a much-needed respite from the recent slate of male-skewing features and the lack of family-centric or women-led offerings, resulting in the sharpest decline in decades. Despite the pivot into a darker tone and a more lukewarm response as compared to the first instalment, it remains a hit among audiences, scoring an “A” grade on CinemaScore exit polls — the same as before.

Directed by original helmer Jon M. Chu, the sequel covers the musical’s second act, where Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande’s Glinda “embrace their new respective identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch of the North”, while facing the consequences of their previous decisions.

The leading pair is joined by returning stars Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton) as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park franchise) as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Coming in second at the domestic box office is Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, which added US$36.8 million to a global haul of US$146.2 million, followed by Predator: Badlands with a franchise-best tally of US$159.6 million, and The Running Man, earning US$5.8 million for a domestic and worldwide total of US$27 million and US$48.3 million, respectively.

Rian Johnson, the filmmaker behind the Daniel Craig-led mystery trilogy Knives Out, has severed his connection with the Force, announcing that his long-gestating Star Wars trilogy is no more.

Rian Johnson (Source: Austin Hargrave)

This news comes via an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where the 51-year-old reflected on his career over the years, such as his work on the 2023 drama Poker Face, this year’s Knives Out instalment, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and notably, the middle instalment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, 2017’s The Last Jedi, which was one of the franchise’s most divisive films.

Despite mixed fan reaction, the film was still successful at the box office, as Johnson was reportedly asked to work on the next movie, to which he “politely declined”. The filmmaker didn’t give up on the sci-fi franchise entirely, however, as he signed on to helm a new Star Wars trilogy that same year, one that was reported to be disconnected from the Skywalker saga.

And while a fresh take on the iconic film series unburdened by past expectations does sound intriguing, this was one galactic undertaking that wasn’t meant to be, as Johnson’s project reportedly never moved past the conceptual stage, with the filmmaker instead stepping away to focus on the next instalments in the Knives Out series. Now, Johnson has come forward to confirm what fans have known for a long time now – his Star Wars trilogy is officially dead.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

“A part of my brain will always be in Star Wars,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, claiming that while the trilogy was “effectively dead”, this didn’t mean that he was completely saying goodbye to the franchise, “It’s so much a part of me and the way I think.”

While Johnson’s involvement in the franchise remains up in the air (or rather, in space), the Star Wars journey is far from over, as Jon Favreau’s spin-off movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, based on the hit Disney+ series, is set to hit theatres on 21 May 2026, which will be followed by Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, set to star Ryan Gosling (Barbie), in May 2027.

The local excitement surrounding Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba reached a fever pitch with the highly anticipated arrival of the Infinity Castle animated film and a red carpet premiere attended by Japanese voice actor Takahiro Sakurai, but there’s still more to come. Following sold-out runs across Asia in 2023 and 2024, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Total Concentration Exhibition will make its debut in Singapore, inviting fans to relive iconic scenes through life-sized sets, dynamic visuals, and multi-sensory experiences.

Organised by FriedRice Experience, in collaboration with ACO Media, Muse Communication, and Mediasphere Communications, the showcase is set to take over the former Singapore Sports Hub Library from 24 January to 15 March 2026, marking its only Southeast Asian stop for the year. It spans 21,000 square feet across two floors, comprising seven experiences that feature major locations and elements of the series, including the Demon Slayer Headquarters, House of Demons, and the various Breathing Style techniques.

Here’s what to expect from each zone:

 • Mount Fujikasane: The mountain designated by the Demon Slayer Corps for the Final Selection. A dreamlike space surrounded by eternally blooming wisteria trees.
 • Demon Slayer Headquarters: Displays key items related to the organisation, including an organisational chart, character profiles, Nichirin Swords, and a curated collection of memorable quotes and iconic depictions of the Demon Slayers.
 • House of Demons: Showcases illustrations of demons from the series, while partially recreating Kibutsuji Muzan’s Infinity Castle. At regular intervals, a special mechanism activates to immerse visitors in the terrifying presence of demons.
 • Battle of Mount Natagumo: Highlights Breathing Styles with original illustrations of Demon Slayers using their breathing techniques, a photo spot recreating the effects of Water Breathing, and other exhibits related to breathing styles.
 • Mugen Train: Life-sized reproductions of the carriages from 2020’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train.
 • Kimetsu Academy: The official spin-off, created by artist Koyoharu Gotoge, portrays life in a modern world where the Demon Slayer Corps and demons coexist. It offers a glimpse of the Demon Slayer Corps living a peaceful life, a stark contrast to their daily life-or-death missions.
 • Infiltrating the Entertainment District: Features numerous contraptions, such as peek-through holes in the fusuma (traditional Japanese sliding partitions) and the Muscle Mice, visible when peering through small openings.

After the 45-minute journey, a 1,000-square-foot merchandise store awaits, offering a selection of collectables and apparel. Specifically for this stop, animation studio ufotable has created designs exclusive only to Singapore, featuring chibi characters at iconic local landmarks.

Tickets for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Total Concentration Exhibition will be available for purchase online in three phases, via Pelago and Klook. The first runs from 26 November to 10 December (or when allocations sell out, whichever is earlier), with a 20 per cent discount on all tickets: S$19.20 and $22.40 for adults on weekdays and weekends, respectively – versus the standard of S$24 and S$28 – and S$15.20 and S$18.40 for concession prices (children between two to 12 years old, and seniors aged 60 and above), compared to S$19 and S$23.

Phase 2, which includes a limited-edition souvenir card with each ticket, begins on 11 December and ends on 22 January, followed by the final wave from 23 January to 15 March 2026. Bundles will be available starting 11 December, consisting of the following options:

 • Family Bundle of 3 (max 2 adults) – S$72, includes 3x souvenir cards if purchased during Phase 2 sale period
 • Family Bundle of 4 (max 2 adults) – S$94, includes 4x souvenir cards if purchased during Phase 2 sale period
 • VIP Bundle (per pax) – S$58, includes 1x ticket, 1x metal bookmark, 1x ID card, 1x $10 retail voucher

The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Total Concentration Exhibition will take place at the former Singapore Sports Hub Library, 4 Stadium Walk, from 24 January to 15 March 2026.

Noah Centineo is getting clearance for launch, as the star of Legendary’s upcoming Street Fighter film is now circling the Gundam movie, the company’s other live-action adaptation based on the iconic Japanese mecha franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in talks to star in the film’s key role alongside Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria). Jim Mickle, best known for his work on 2014’s Cold in July and 2019’s In the Shadow of the Moon, will be directing and writing the script for the upcoming adaptation.

Although plot details of the Gundam movie remain mostly under wraps, the film is set to see Sweeney as its central character, who develops a relationship with a man on the opposite side of a galactic war, similar in vein to the Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet. Although unconfirmed, it’s likely that Centineo will take on the role of her on-screen counterpart if final talks go through.

Originally launched in 1979 by creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, the Mobile Suit Gundam anime not only pioneered the “real robot” subgenre of anime but also spawned a multimedia empire. Its plot followed an intergalactic war between the Principality of Zeon, a faction formed by colonies outside Earth, and the Earth Federation in a fight for independence, deploying massive robots known as Mobile Suits, also known as Gundam.

With such a massive series to draw inspiration from, with the Gundam franchise being an empire of TV shows, movies and spin-offs, it’s also unclear if the movie will adapt the events of the original 1979 anime, or even possibly the franchise’s latest entry, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which released this year. Either way, after almost five decades of animation legacy, fans are no doubt waiting with bated breath for Legendary to finally bring the iconic mecha to life.

Giving older titles a second lease on life.

remake

As video game developers seemingly run out of ideas for new titles, the industry has seen a game remake boom in recent years, with studios banking on the power of nostalgia by revitalising older titles for the modern audience.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (2025)

And it’s no wonder, since gamers are spending more on older games than new ones. According to a September 2025 report by insights consultancy firm MTM, 90 per cent of PC and console gamers have played a remaster or remake in the last 12 months.

For those wondering about the distinction between a video game remake or a remaster, a remake serves as a reimagining of an original game, but is built from scratch with updated graphics, gameplay and even story, while a remaster is merely an enhanced version of the original game, with improved visuals, sound effects, and voice recordings, but with no changes to the core gameplay.

Which means that unlike remasters, which tend to provide a mere boost in resolution or framerate, remakes are far more exciting, as titles are often built from the ground up while preserving the original’s core gameplay experience, meaning players don’t just get to experience older and less accessible titles, but a fresh spin on a classic title with overhauled visuals and sometimes even new content, allowing players to fall in love with them all over again.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024)

And it’s not the appeal of nostalgia that brings older gamers to older classics, as MTM’s research indicated that 85 per cent of those who played a remaster or remake in the last year never played the original, which means they were attracted to the classic title based on reputation alone.

Lastly, the research also shows that 76 per cent of 1,500 console/PC gamers in the US and UK (750 in each) indicated their desire for remakes and remasters by saying these games were appealing, which explains the likes of Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 hitting shelves in 2025.

But are remakes and remasters the same? According to a November 2025 report by entertainment research firm Ampere Analysis, which tracked data from January 2024 to September 2025, video game remakes produced around 2.2 times the amount of consumer spending as remasters did during that time frame

Halo: Campaign Evolved (2026)

Take Xbox, for example, which recently announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved’s (2001) campaign, now rebuilt from the ground up with high-definition visuals and cutscenes, alongside adding new content. Furthermore, the Halo franchise’s second and third games are also set to see remakes of their own, at least according to insider leaks, signalling a shift in the studio’s strategy to bring the classic shooter series to a new generation.

Of course, Halo is far from the only video game franchise set to see a revival, as here are 10 remakes to keep an eye out for in 2026 and beyond. Let’s just hope that these titles won’t end up worse than the originals.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

Release Date: 6 February 2026
Original Release: 26 August 2000
Developer: Square Enix, Hexadrive
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, PC

Framed as a reimagining of the original 2000 JRPG instead of just a mere remake, like its name suggests, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined overhauls the classic 2D experience into a new 3D hand-crafted aesthetic, bringing the characters designed by the legendary Akira Toriyama to life in a whole new light alongside a charming diorama art style.

It isn’t just about looks, though, as gameplay is set to receive a much-needed modernising with battle speed adjustments, an auto-battle feature, and a new Moonlighting mechanic to assign characters with two vocations at once. The original title’s notoriously complex narrative will also be streamlined, making the journey more accessible to newcomers.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 + Dark Ties

Release Date: 12 February 2026
Original Release: 26 February 2009
Developer: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC

RGG Studio is finally set to give perhaps the weakest entry in the Yakuza franchise the modernising it so desperately needs, as not only will Yakuza Kiwami 3 feature the same overhauls seen in past Kiwami titles, it’s getting a bunch of fresh content too.

Leading man Kazuma Kiryu will now have two fighting styles at his disposal, a revamped version of his original The Dragon of Dojima Style, alongside a new Ryukyu Style, which arms him with eight different Okinawan weapons. What’s more, the game is also set to launch with an entirely new chapter, Dark Ties, which shines the spotlight on fan-favourite villain Yoshitaka Mine in his own prequel adventure.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

Release Date: 2026
Original Release: 15 November 2001
Developer: Halo Studios
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

The aforementioned Halo: Campaign Evolved is possibly the boldest move by Xbox in a long while, as the remake will mark the franchise’s first appearance on Sony’s PlayStation platform since its debut in 2001.

This means all console fans can look forward to experiencing the classic shooter, now rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 and boasting a ton of additions and reworks such as redesigned levels, gameplay and narrative additions to reflect later Halo titles, two-player splitscreen and four-player online co-op, and most notably, three brand-new missions set before the events of the game featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake

Release Date: 12 March 2026
Original Release: 27 November 2003
Developer: Koei Tecmo Games
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC

As perhaps the most unique horror franchise of the early 2000s, Fatal Frame (also known as Project Zero in Europe and Australia) made waves for its signature photography-based ghost-hunting gameplay. The franchise might have quietened down in recent years, but that’s not stopping developer Koei Tecmo Games from revitalising the classic titles with remasters of both its fourth and fifth entries, Maiden of Black Water and Mask of the Lunar Eclipse.

Now, the franchise’s second entry, which is often lauded as one the its best, is getting the same treatment, but this isn’t a simple resolution boost this time around, as Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will boast a complete overhaul from its graphics to gameplay system, updating the iconic Camera Obscura mechanic for a more engaging experience across exploration and combat. Oh, and the game’s sisters, Mio and Mayu, can now hold hands too, amazing.

Gothic 1 Remake

Release Date: Q1 2026
Original Release: 15 March 2001
Developer: Alkimia Interactive
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

When it launched back in 2001, Gothic redefined the RPG genre with its groundbreaking exploration, alongside being one of the first in the genre to feature fully voiced dialogue. It was far from perfect, though, heavily criticised for its bugs and poor control scheme, something Alkimia Interactive intends to address this with its upcoming remake.

Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, the Gothic 1 Remake is set to be a faithful recreation of the genre-defining title, which apart from the usual visual overhaul, will most importantly modernise its combat system to fix the original’s greatest flaw. Best of all, a playable prologue demo is now available on Steam, offering a glimpse of what’s to come.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Release Date: 2026
Original Release: 28 October 2003
Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC

It’s safe to say that Ubisoft’s upcoming remake of its classic action-adventure title, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, has had a rough time since its announcement in 2020. Initially developed by Ubisoft Pune/Mumbai, things quickly fell apart upon the reveal of its first trailer, which was ridiculed for its unimpressive graphics.

Following two delays, first by two months and then indefinitely, development was subsequently taken over by the far more experienced Ubisoft Montreal, with an expected release date now sometime in 2026. Looking at the troubled remake’s track record and the recent kerfuffle with Tencent, it will honestly be quite a miracle if the title even meets this deadline, but for a series as loved as Prince of Persia, Ubisoft should just take as much time as needed to get it right.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Release Date: TBA
Original Release: 15 July 2003
Developer: Saber Interactive
Platforms: PlayStation 5, PC

Remake

We are now heading into rather rocky territory, with a bunch of remakes that have simply been announced, but don’t feature any concrete gameplay details at the point of writing. First up is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the iconic RPG originally helmed by BioWare, which was announced to be receiving a remake back in 2021, with barely any news since.

Initially worked on by Aspyr, development soon stalled one year after its announcement, followed by reports that the project had switched hands to Saber Interactive, and then, nothing, like the game itself had fallen to the literal dark side. Cut to 2025, Saber studio head Matthew Karch came forward to reassure fans that “the game is alive and well”, so who knows when we’ll actually see a first proper look at the title.

Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake

Release Date: TBA
Original Release: 24 July 2001 (Max Payne 1), 14 October 2003 (Max Payne 2)
Developer: Remedy Entertainment
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Remake

Remedy Entertainment, a studio well-known for its expertise in making shooters with excellent narratives such as Control and Alan Wake, stirred excitement in the gaming community when it announced that it was teaming up with Rockstar to remake the first two games of the latter’s classic shooter franchise, Max Payne

The remake is set to combine both games into a single package, and while details are scarce, the project was reported to be in “full production” as of August this year, with Remedy CEO Markus Maki describing that the game has been hitting its milestone goals in a recent quarterly investor report, so hopes are high that we will be able to learn more about the Bullet Time pioneers revival in the coming months.

Silent Hill Remake

Release Date: TBA
Original Release: 23 February 1999
Developer: Bloober Team
Platforms: TBA

Remake

Fresh from the success of its 2024 remake, Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team is set to give the horror franchise’s debut entry the same treatment.

Apart from its initial announcement trailer revealed during the Konami Press Start Showcase in June this year, which offered no other details other than the fact that the remake was in development, the only information we know about the upcoming project is that it’s currently in full production, with one of Bloober’s two internal first-party production teams being entirely dedicated to its development, meaning fans will just have to sit tight and wait for the fog to clear on the elusive title.

The Witcher Remake

Release Date: TBA
Original Release: 26 October 2007
Developer: Fools Theory, CD Projekt Red
Platforms: TBA

Remake

CD Projekt Red is certainly keeping busy, as apart from working on its massive RPG follow-up, The Witcher 4, the studio is also looking to the past and remaking the first game in the series.

Developer Fool’s Theory is in charge of the remaking efforts, with creative supervision from The Witcher series staff and CD Projekt Red, with the game built in Unreal Engine 5. Apart from that, nothing else is known about the title, so it remains to be seen how the studio will modernise the original game’s infamous rhythm-based combat system, or if it will forgo it altogether for a more standard system seen in later titles, but one thing’s for sure, with the unfortunate downward spiral of Netflix’s series adaptation, fans need a good Geralt adventure now more than ever.

Bonus: Splinter Cell Remake

Release Date: TBA
Original Release: 18 November 2002
Developer: Ubisoft Toronto
Platforms: TBA

Remake

This is one title that fans have been yearning for for ages, as following the release of Splinter Cell Blacklist in 2013, the iconic stealth franchise has remained in the shadows since, with Ubisoft seemingly ignoring fans’ pleas to revive what was once the studio’s flagship franchise, instead content with disappointing them by simply having protagonist Sam Fisher cameo in other games like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six Siege.

Imagine fans’ surprise when it was announced back in 2021 that a remake of Sam Fisher’s first outing was in development, and now imagine their subsequent disappointment when the game would go radio silent for the next four years, with the only news about the remake after being the unfortunate exit of its director, David Grivel. With no indication of whether the project is even alive at this point, Ubisoft is really taking Fisher’s mantra of stealth and silence a little too far.
