Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza might lie in ruins, but the nightmare is far from over.

Former security guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games) returns to face the deadly animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the thrilling second chapter based on the iconic horror game franchise that’s heading to cinemas on 4 December 2025.

Helmed by returning director Emma Tammi, the sequel is set one year after the events of the 2023 original, and follows Mike as he tries to live a normal life with his sister Abby (Piper Rubio) after their traumatic encounter at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. When Abby’s connection with her animatronic friends leads to her sneaking out to find them, Mike must venture back to where it all began, uncovering the true origins of the animatronics and the dark secrets behind the notorious pizzeria.

Joined by returning faces Elizabeth Lail (You), Theodus Crane (The Walking Dead) and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) as Vanessa Shelly, Jeremiah and William Afton, respectively, the sequel promises to serve up the scares not just within the pizzeria itself, but also ups the stakes for its second run by introducing improved versions of the original animatronics and letting them loose to wreak havoc on the town.

Since his debut in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog has never stopped going fast. From the earliest days of Emerald Hill Zone to Speed Jungle, SEGA’s blue speedster has blitzed through them all, leaving opponents in the dust while collecting rings en route to the finish line. 

But sprinting on foot isn’t the only way to indulge in that need for speed, with the Sonic Racing series offering adrenaline fuel in the form of customisable race vehicles. Marking a welcome return to the race track after six years is Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, delivering the fast-paced and energetic gameplay that fans have come to love, alongside a host of new features.

The fundamentals appear as straightforward and familiar as before. In Grand Prix mode, players compete for the top spot in one of the seven cups and earn points based on their placements at the end of one lap and accumulated after three. Except there’s now a catch.

After finishing a standard course in the first lap, drivers will have to speed through a Travel Ring in the next one, revealing a CrossWorld with new challenges, including Frenzy events. The final lap returns to the original map, updated with new shortcuts, obstacles, rings, and items, complete with reimagined versions of classic Sonic stages from previous outings. 

This time, the starting roster comprises 23 playable characters from the Sonic universe, including long-time fan-favourite Shadow the Hedgehog, franchise first-timers like Sage, as well as guest racers in the form of popular virtual idol Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5 Royal, and Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, each specialising in a particular attribute – Speed, Acceleration, Handling, Power, or Boost. Next comes vehicle customisation, allowing for tweaks to the front, rear, and tyre components to build the ideal racing machine, alongside gadget selection, which grants perks to certain types of power-ups and movesets.

The flag-off is where the chaotic fun begins. Littered along the race course are randomised items that give players an advantage in various ways, be it a speed boost, sabotaging other racers, lowering their visibility, and more. Between that and the option to ram into opponents and throw them off their game, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds promises to ignite the flames of competition in the most enjoyable way possible.

Aside from Grand Prix, four other game modes are also available: Race Park, or Party Mode, featuring support for local split-screen or online play; World Match, where players compete online to increase their global rank;  Friend Match, custom lobbies with full control over racing rules; and Time Trial, where you can test your driving skills against the clock.

Victory still reigns supreme regardless, so here are some quick tips to get an edge over your rivals – accelerate and land the arrow in the green sweet spot just as the flag goes down to get a small burst of speed; always keep an eye out for shortcuts in a circuit, as victory can often boil down to a difference in milliseconds; drift to fill the speed metre and gain a boost depending how much it’s charged up; perform a series of air tricks for a great speed boost; and save the offensive power-ups till slightly before the finish line, then launch it ahead and revel in your opponent’s misery.

With the large number of gadgets, vehicles, and characters available, however, it can be difficult to find the right one out of over 70,000 possible combinations (yes, you read that right) for individual play styles. There’s no need to fret, as we have compiled our recommendations for the most optimal custom builds across the three categories, but some of these elements can only be unlocked at a later time. 

Machine and Character Customisation

Matching a character’s type to the corresponding vehicle attribute is ideal for playing safe, but there’s only so much it can do. A core element of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds is toying around with individual components and seeing how they all click together, which requires an understanding of each stat – Speed, Acceleration, and Boost are self-explanatory, while Handling refers to the vehicle’s ability to perform tight turns, and Power, its resistance to certain obstacles or collisions.

Gadget Customisation

While it may be tempting to invest in a loadout that directly benefits the five attributes, the importance of racing basics in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds cannot be overstated. From performing tricks during jumps to gain a speed boost upon landing and collecting Rings to increase the top speed, to drifting through curves to charge a boost, the smallest of actions can be deadly in the right hands, especially with the right upgrades. 

• Bumper Combo (Dash on Impact + Steal Rings On Impact) – Allows players to smash into opponents and gain an advantage when paired with a Power-type setup
• Massive Ring Collection (Collect Rings on Dash Panels + Increase Ring Capacity) – Ideal for keeping a high ring count and maintenance of top speed
• Ultra High-Speed Air Trick (Super Speed Air Trick + Collect Rings via Air Tricks) – Recommended for players who want to execute ticks while racing strategically
• Acceleration Item (Deploy Double Boost Items + Increase Boost Item Frequency) – Gives a significant advantage on courses with many run-off areas
• High-Speed Spin Knockback (Knock Back Opponents with High Speed Spins + Easier to Catch Up to Opponents) – Spin relentlessly, knock opponents away, and dominate the track with relentless disruption

The return of the largest cinema screen in Singapore will be marked by the return of the biggest movie of this decade, as James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water returns for a special one-week screening in IMAX 3D at the newly refurbished Shaw Lido in Singapore’s Orchard Road.

Shaw Theatres’ Lido gave local audiences its first IMAX movie screen in 2011, and while there have been several smaller improvements made over the years, including the upgrade to IMAX Laser in 2022, 2025 will mark the location’s biggest overhaul, which adds new screens for all halls including IMAX, upgrade from Xenon projection to Laser for the other movie halls and a new lobby in the first phase. The remaining halls are also being renovated as part of Phase 2 of the upgrade, as one of the region’s biggest names in cinemas continues to challenge the recent downsizing of the industry as competitors including Cathay and Filmgarde shutter.

The return of The Way of the Water, the long-awaited 2022 sequel to 2009’s hit, Avatar, will also serve as a refresher for the upcoming sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, directed by Cameron, with returning leads Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. The original film currently sits at the top of the global box-office as the highest grossing movie of all time, at US$2.9 billion, while the sequel, at $2.3 billion, sits at number three on the all-time list, and is currently the highest grossing film of the decade.

This time, the focus is on Final Fantasy XIV and FFXIV, the latest numbered mainline entry that was noticeably missing from last year’s setlist, with the rest of the series also getting its fair share of attention. In Singapore, Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy XIV and XVI will take over the Star Theatre on 24 October 2025 at 7:30 pm, promising two hours of recollecting memories for one night only.

Leading the orchestra is Arnie Roth, conductor of past Distant Worlds performances, alongside Amanda Achen, the original vocalist for both titles. Ninjas have enjoyed a storied legacy in popular culture, with their mastery over martial arts (specifically ninjutsu), unconventional weapons (like throwing stars and smoke bombs), and swift-as-wind espionage and assassination skills serving as prime material for the action genre. Then, there’s the matter of legendary, magical abilities that allow them to control elements, adding another layer of mystique to the original myth. 

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is certainly no stranger to adapting the craft for the video game medium, taking after its roots that date back to 1987. Marking the introduction of protagonist Joe Musashi, the arcade title found a strong foothold in the hack-and-slash space and went on to spawn an entire series of games, including the latest reboot. For returning fans, this marks a long-awaited revival after 14 years, packed with everything that makes SHINOBI special, from exhilarating high-speed combat to a wide variety of platforming action.

The game follows Joe Musashi on his journey to exact revenge on Lord Ruse, the mysterious leader of the military organisation ENE Corporation, which decimated his village, and thwarts the villain’s plan for world domination. But the real excitement lies in navigating obstacles and cutting down anyone who stands in the way, as it turns killing into a beautiful, enthralling art form that franchise newcomers, and especially genre enthusiasts, can easily enjoy.

For starters, there’s no fixed way to take down an enemy. Similar to fighting games, combat in SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance involves chaining combos, and it doesn’t take long for starting techniques to become available – besides stringing together light and heavy attacks or a mix of both, unleashing kunai attacks, Ninpo abilities, Shinobi Execution, and Ninjutsu are all possible attacking combinations. Each move plays out velvety smooth and has a notable weight to it, whether it’s a crisp sword slash or the satisfying crunch of a shield-breaking blow and aerial kicks, serving Joe well in their own way.

Where the kunai proves useful for striking foes from a distance, Ninpo offers access to elemental-infused magic that includes a short-ranged fireball attack, a defensive water stance for parrying an incoming attack, a giant kunai to wear down armoured opponents, a lightning dash that deals continuous damage in a spot for a brief period, and more.

Shinobi Execution and Ninjutsu further ramp up the adrenaline, with the former allowing Joe to chain-assassinate staggered enemies when a symbol appears above their heads, granting additional rewards after defeat, such as gold, health orbs, and kunai ammo. Meanwhile, Ninjutsu is akin to an Ultimate ability, and depending on the activated ability, it will turn the tides of battles significantly – Karyu, for example, sets all adversaries on fire to inflict devastating damage, but its water-infused counterpart, Shisui, does the opposite and replenishes a massive amount of health. 

These techniques can be mastered as players progress through the story, and combined with basic movements for even more variation. Pairing a ninja roll with a light attack lands a knee attack once unlocked, and transitioning from a mid-air jump into a heavy overhead slam makes for an effective takedown. The addition of Ningi, mobility and traversal capabilities such as Ninja Claws, used to climb special walls, and Ninja Hook, essentially a directional grapple hook, with others like Cannon Punch, built for punching through certain walls, also doubling as a combat mechanic that breaks enemy armour. Some of the Ningi feature prominently in boss encounters as well, spicing up the typical battling experience through more dynamic, fast-paced manoeuvring.

With 17 combat moves, eight Ninpo, seven Ningi, and four Ninjutsu slots available, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is an open invitation to explore different combo loadouts and develop one that fits your play style. The possibilities are vast, be it close-range fighters, who can choose to combine Cannon Punch with a heavy swing or a spin slash before transitioning into a defensive Water Ninpo stance, or the aerial jugglers who take joy in chaining an aerial strike, rising strike, and a dive kick follow-up. 

It’s not as easy as moving forward and mashing buttons, either – empowered and elite enemies often present additional challenges, such as having to dodge past shielded assailants and dealing damage by striking from behind. Similarly, there are caveats to unleashing any of the abilities, as the Ninpo gauge only fills up upon attacking foes, and the Ninjutsu metre charges when damage is taken or Rage Orbs are collected from felled enemies. It’s this build-up that makes the execution all the more satisfying, however, culminating in a rewarding, addictive payoff.

The final gear in the machine is the Amulet system. Alongside the other combat elements, it seeks to elevate gameplay flexibility by granting perks based on their type: Passive, which are active throughout, and Combo, which activate once the specified combo level is met. In the broader context, Amulets can prove handy in supporting attacking styles – players who like to keep their distance may equip Aquatic Warrior, an enhanced version of the Water Ninpo that adds kunai attacks, and the Piercing Kunai, allowing kunai to cut through enemies at twice the ammo cost. 

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance doesn’t just offer exhilarating, high-octane action, but turns it into a beautiful spectacle as well. The brainchild of French developer Lizardcube, known for their hand-drawn visuals in fellow SEGA-published title Streets of Rage 4, it showcases a world of gorgeous artwork and animation, comprising distinct stages ranging from military bases and a retro-futuristic setting to a scorching desert.

During battle, the facelift takes the form of vibrant, lively hues that colour each sword slash and ninpo, leading up to the breathtaking sight of a roaring fire dragon (which is where Karyu takes its name from). Players can also expect a neat comic panel-style presentation before the start of every boss encounter and an intricately detailed environmental design, topped off with an exceptional soundtrack that never fails to get the blood pumping. Pay close attention to Joe’s outfit, and you can even spot the flapping of his clothing as he runs!

Between versatile, rip-roaring combat and a visually arresting art style, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance has all the sharpened edges needed to usher in a new age of the classic 2D platformer action. The game releases on 29 August, but a free demo is currently available on all platforms (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC).

It’s Flame On, True Believers, as we herald the fourth coming of Marvel Comics’ First Family in grand style, as Geek Culture, along with Marvel Singapore, are hosting a screening event to the next exciting chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm aka Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm aka Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm aka The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet – new family and new beginnings. 

Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, the quartet must defend Earth from the ravenous cosmic entity Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). 

And like the larger than life universal presence of cosmic entity Galactus in the film by director Matt Shakman, over 370 lucky audience members will get to experience the film in massive cinematic IMAX glory ahead of the film’s official release, to welcome the first superhero family created at Marvel Comics.

To mark the long-awaited introduction of the family into the MCU, each lucky audience member will walk away with a limited edition pin. There are four character designs, and audiences will get a pin at random.

Singapore, will be taking flight with a special fan premiere screening of Superman on 9th July. We will be giving away 60 pairs of tickets to 120 lucky fans to catch the upcoming film by James Gunn at Shaw Lido Theatres, giving the top Super-fans an amazing chance to experience the Man of Tomorrow ahead of its official release on 10th July.

Superman is DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen.
