Netflix Serves Up ‘Overcooked’ Reality TV Show With A24

Netflix and A24 are teaming up to adapt the massively popular cooperative cooking simulator Overcooked into a competition reality TV series, which hopefully will be a recipe for disaster in all the best ways.

Overcooked (2016)

As reported by Deadline, A24 has acquired the rights to adapt the 2016 cooking game, tapping on the streamer to develop an unscripted series adaptation, which is said to follow in the same vein as other reality shows on the platform like 2018’s Nailed It! and 2020’s Floor Is Lava.

The project is reported to be in its early stages of development, and will mark A24’s first foray into reality competition series. The adaptation will also be executive-produced by Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan from Ghost Town Games, developer of the Overcooked game.

While details of the show remain under wraps, the project will most certainly aim to deliver the same chaos seen in the video game that made it so popular to begin with, tasking up to four players with working together in a kitchen filled with hazards or other obstacles, utilising teamwork and communication to prepare and deliver orders before they run out of time.

Overcooked 2 (2018)

In this way, a real-world reality adaptation of Overcooked makes perfect sense, as it has the potential to deliver any manner of high-stakes kitchen challenges to throw a spanner in the works, such as altering the kitchen’s layout in the middle of service or separating the chefs and forcing them to coordinate their actions, which will hopefully emulate that same madness seen in the games and lead to a crazy but enjoyable watch, if its done right.
