Originally planned for launch this year, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of its 2022 fantasy RPG, has now been delayed until 2026.

“While development on Elden Ring Tarnished Edition continues wholeheartedly toward release, we have decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments,” said FromSoftware in a social media post announcing the delay. “We apologise to players looking forward to the game and thank you for your patience and support.”
The port was announced earlier this year and was initially expected to arrive sometime in 2025, with the Tarnished Edition bundling both the base game as well as its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. However, during a recent hands-on session with the game at Gamescom, outlets like IGN and Nintendo Life reported that the game ran poorly on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console, with major framerate issues marring the experience.

It makes sense, then, that FromSoftware would choose to take the additional time to work on performance optimisation for the game, especially one as ambitious and grand as Elden Ring. Hopefully, this delay lets the team smooth out the framerate issues and allows the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition to launch in a stable state in 2026.
