‘Wonder Woman’ Film Is A “Priority” For DCU, But Casting Hasn’t Begun

James Gunn, director of the massively successful Superman and co-chair of DC Studios, has addressed various fan rumours regarding the upcoming Wonder Woman film that is currently in development.

Responding to theories on Threads about the casting for the next Wonder Woman, Gunn stated firmly that he was not casting for his Wonder Woman film, “nor even discussing it, until a script is finished.”

He also made it clear that his rationale for choosing actors for major roles would not factor in the actor’s former work in TV or film, affirming that it was purely dependent on the casting process. He further specified that this was the case for Supergirl’s Milly Alcock as well, who was chosen for the titular role because she was simply the best fit.

The Guardians of the Galaxy alum also had this to say, when asked about the upcoming Wonder Woman film’s “fast-tracked” status that had previously been reported, “It’s a priority, but I wouldn’t call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.”

With Superman being the commercial success that it is, having grossed US$407 million by the end of its box office sophomore outing, fans have been clamouring to see more of what the DC Universe has in store. This, coupled with a report that Gunn is considering TV spin-offs for Mister Terrific, Jimmy Olsen, as well as plans for a new Justice League movie in the future, has caused fans to speculate and theorise heavily about upcoming projects and future castings.

Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet in Superman (2025)

Gunn recently divulged his rationale for casting David Corenswet for Superman, saying that part of what sold Gunn on Corenswet as Superman was his chemistry test with Rachel Brosnahan, who played Lois Lane. With Brosnahan’s controlled acting, coupled with Corenswet’s dynamism, the pair shared electric onscreen chemistry that truly sparkled effortlessly during the audition and on the silver screen as well.

With buzz building around the outstanding first movie entry of the DC Universe, carried on the strong shoulders of Corenswet’s Superman, tons of fan casting for the rest of the major DC characters, like Wonder Woman and Batman, are already swirling online. Unfortunately, given Gunn’s recent rebuttals to the rumours surrounding Wonder Woman, fans will have to patiently wait as the birth of the DC Universe continues.
